Over the past 9 years that my kids have attended Waukegan Public Schools, my wife and I have volunteered countless days and donated a substantial sum in our own employees wages and materials and donated to help college bound kids through the Envision Scholars program. We have assisted our kids teachers allotting half a day in each class per week for most of the year out of our own busy schedules. We have been overpaid in smiles, Valentines/Halloween treats, thanks, and even a recognition for being the Top Volunteer Family at Cooke Magnet Elementary School. With the help of other students, parents, and teachers, together, we have spruced up our schools. WHY??? Because District 60 parents and teachers care about our future! I am disgusted and disappointed of the actions this district has caused to the teachers who bust their everything for our kids by even using their own money to buy supplies. The true volunteer is the teacher that deals with the kids best and worst days and I often wonder, How do they do it? Some people look at our district as a bad one. Yes, we have thought of moving to go to better schools, but by working alongside Waukegan teachers I felt confident. Their wages are not the measure of their competency, but yet if they were... in my eyes, they should be the ones getting the car allowance, six-figure wages and free insurance.
