Over the past few months I have read an incredible amount of posts about wedding vendors who have ripped off their clients on this page by not showing up for their event or providing poor service. As a full-time wedding professional this makes me very sad, so I wanted to take a moment to provide some simple tips for you to choose the right vendors for your wedding day. 1.Always! Always! meet with your vendors preferably in person or at least online via Skype or FaceTime. Doing this will give you the confidence that you are choosing a company that you feel comfortable with, and that you know you can work with. 2.When meeting with professionals you should always have them demo their product. Try the cake, look at their photos, see the room your wedding will be in, etc. 3.If you are meeting with someone from the entertainment industry, you should always ask them to either provide uncut video footage or to audition by either performing musically or making a mock announcement. Any true professional will be happy to provide one or both of these services to you at your request. Anyone can tell you they are AWESOME! Make them prove it. 4.Make sure they are properly licensed and insured. This protects you and your investment. If a company is not willing to go through the process of legalizing their business, RUN! 5.Check to see if the companies you work with are willing to sign a contract for the services that they will be offering. For entertainment companies and photographers, make sure the company will guarantee the entertainer or photographer you will have on your wedding day on the contract. This will eliminate surprises on your wedding day. If they refuse to contract with you… RUN! 6.Ask for references. These can be personal references from previous clients or reviews on 3rd party websites like Wedding Wire or The Knot. Using a 3rd party review site takes away control from the company to monitor and edit their reviews. I hope these few tips will help you when searching for the right vendors for your wedding day. :)
