Over the weekend, I get to understand the meaning of choice. I - TopicsExpress

Over the weekend, I get to understand the meaning of choice. I always believe there is a hell and a heaven on earth, while we live. A person can be living in hell if his/her internal state is in turmoil (hatred, jealousy), or his/her external environment is harsh and hostile (war zones, natural disasters). Both hell and heaven (on earth, and no religious meanings intended) can be as real to our experience. The power we have is choice. For example, I was stressed because my new book series can fail. What if the kids dont like my book? What if the first book sells badly? What if Singaporeans are still not ready for sci-fi from Asian writers? I was in hell. How did I get there? By thinking about me, me and me. Then I remembered who I pledged the creation of the books to: the orphans. Their stories need to be told. More people need to understand the history in Asia that caused the suffering. Young people really need stories like these. And I got off self-pity and started contacting the schools about the book. I was hopeful, excited, and when the replies came in, I was thrilled. I was in heaven. So, I get how every moment and day is my own creation: choose to think about the outside world, and I am in heaven. Choose to think about myself, and I live in hell. And that is why we are not born alone - giving ourselves to the outside world is our path to heaven on earth.
