Over the weekend I have been out and about speaking to local - TopicsExpress

Over the weekend I have been out and about speaking to local residents about my 6 point plan for our area. Since being selected nearly two years ago as the prospective MP and to stand at the General Election in May, I have been working across the whole of the Northfield constituency listening and finding out what people want to see from their elected representative. From thousands of conversations, I have selected my priorities based on what local residents are saying to me. One very important task is keeping our streets clean, and a key plank of this is campaigning to reverse the unfair £35 garden tax, which led last summer to such chaos in our waste collection services. Its disturbing to notice that there is still uncollected garden waste on the streets in some areas from last summer. Once the weather begins to warm up again, we are expecting more mess on our streets. The Labour Council has pledged to continue with this ill-thought out policy which has directly contributed to our area looking dirty and untidy, and has hit the elderly and those without cars who cannot get to the tip very hard. We wont stop campaigning to reverse this policy, and remember that local Conservatives in Birmingham have pledged to scrap the garden tax (paid for by saving money on wasteful council spending, not cutting front line services). In the meantime, Im out and about regularly with our local team of volunteers doing our bit to keep our streets clean! If you know of an area that needs a bit of tlc, dont hesitate to get in touch with us. We cant promise to clean up the whole area but we do our best. We have more clean ups planned so look out for our team coming to your area soon!
