Over the years we have at our High Court witnessed that when no-nonsense and decisive Judges are posted it is observed that the Advocate General does all possible to find every excuse to stay away from the High Court. We are currently testimony to Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni taking a lot of time off. With his secretly guarded ten day junket to Europe with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, his never ending religious pilgrimages and his frequent trips to Delhi in mining the Mining Lords, the flamboyant Atmaram Nadkarni has conveniently been most of the time outstation. While he absconds his dozen odd puppies have been helplessly struggling to hold the fort. In their vain attempt to dodge the Court, they are fortunately not trained to bark like their Master. If every Judge ends up being a no-nonsense Judge rising above technicalities, the Advocate General may have to permanently go underground and be out of circulation. It would however mean ‘Ache din’ for the justice seekers who line up at Goa’s highest temple of Justice seeking accountability of an increasingly insensitive and corrupt political executive. It would strengthen the fight to cleanse our rotting system and to achieve at least in some measure the constitutional goal of a State governed strictly by the rule of law.
