Overall wild and dangerous was a pretty good documentary. It definitely showed the positive relationships that keepers have with their exotic pets and it wasnt edited to make us all look like fools. They did follow these stories up with interviews with experts stating the negative and dangerous effects that exotics have on wild populations and the public. Unfortunately it doesnt show the equal positive effects that keeping exotics have had on wild populations. In this day in age the smuggling of wild caught animals far less than it once was and has been replaced by many very successful captive breeding programs the majority of which are private keepers and not the zoos. The majority of smuggling today that fuels and funds organized crime is the trade of illegal animal parts. These are pouchers who sell these parts like ivory and rhino horn and skins to fund illegal operations and to supply the fashion, art and meat trades. Overall I think the film was well laid out and was not bashing or over sensationalized. It wasnt promoting fear or even portraying keepers in a negative light. Jason stayed true to his word that it would be a balanced film and not about hate, fear over the top antics. I would recommend you watch it on the cbc doc zone website, if you didnt get a chance to see it on cable and to check out another very well documentary film by the same crew and production company called Zoo Nation.
