Overcoming Temptation(part 2) 4. Remember, victory is a person more than a behavior. Victory comes with the victor (John 10:10; 14:6)! Instead of focusing on the behavior, focus on improving your relationship with Jesus; focus on making sure the victor is dwelling in your heart and life. His indwelling will change you; it will change your tastes and desires (John 15:4). Needless to say, this indwelling comes as you invite Him to enter (Rev.3:20) and as you continue to spend time with Him (Phil 1:21). 5. Put together a network of trustworthy friends who will pray with and for you (2 Thess. 3:1), and who you can call at critical moments when breaking the temptation cycle. Joining a small group is also very helpful. 6. Realize there are often underlying issues that can make a person more vulnerable to what Satan is doing. Identify them so that you can begin addressing them and thereby also address the temptation. These could include areas in your life that remain unsurrendered, a sin that remains unconfessed, an unresolved relational deficit or injury from the past, or a bitterness still cherished. 7. Recognize Satan prompts tempting thoughts to your mind and then blames you for having them. Don’t accept his thoughts as coming from you. Flee from them as much as you do him (James 4:7,8). 8. Recognize that Satan uses temptations to discourage you. Remember he is a liar! He loves suggesting that if you were really such a good Christian you wouldnt be tempted! 9. Finally, rejoice that a way of escape has been made for every temptation (1 Cor. 10:13) and that He will bring you off more than conqueror (Romans 8:37). Not only that He will enable you to become a new creature where the former things are passed away and all things have become new! (2 Cor. 5:17) Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Ephesians 3:10 Say this prayer to get reconnected to Christ: Lord I thank you for reaching out to me. I thank you for the victory that you got for me on the cross at Calvary. Lord I confess and forsake my sins today. I ask that you cleanse me and make me whole. Give me a new beginning of victory. Thank you for you have done. In Jesus name I pray. Jesus is Lord
