Overhaul child support! Over one billion dollars is owed in child support, and its typical for some people to be owed in excess of $20 000. Some people never see the money. There are too many loopholes and ways of avoiding paying. Make these non-paying parents accountable! They are the ones who have often abdicated all parental responsibility, why should the government allow them to have no financial obligation? They are the ones who should be financially punished, not the primary caregiver who is doing everything in their power to care and provide for their kids. They have the freedom to work any days, any hours, any shifts of their choosing. My suggestion is to make all child support payments payable to the government, who then passes on the payments to the primary carer. If the payee doesn’t pay, the primary carer still gets the correct rate of child support, but the payee gets a debt to the government with interest, a bad credit rating for defaulting, and even issued fines (or jail sentences for those who continue to avoid payment).
