Overload We’ve all experienced times in our lives when the demands of work, responsibilities, deadlines, and relationships all seem to be pulling us under water with a 200- pound weight tied to our feet. Overload occurs when, try as we might, there are not nearly enough hours in the day and our physical, mental, and emotional reserves are not sufficient to deal with all we have on our plate. Students suffering from overload may experience depression, sleeplessness, mood swings, frustration, anxiety, or a host of other symptoms. Taken together, these may make the likelihood of being productive even more remote. Binge drinking; high consumption of junk foods; and fighting with friends, family, and coworkers can all add fuel to the overload fire.31 Unrelenting stress and overload can lead to a state of physical and mental exhaustion known as burnout. (This is what I spend hours doing late at night. Psychology homework! No wonder I am going crazy. lol)
