The original building dates back to the 1800s and was developed in 1893. The original brew house and stables still adjoin the main pub and sit locked in a time warp of neglect. Whilst the main pub echoes voices of its long history. If only walls could talk? Or maybe they do? Regulars and staff report to poltergeist phenomena where coats fly off their hooks and the till is regularly opened by a previous landlord who never left……There are said to be sounds of children’s laughter in the cellar area and the last landlady refused to live in the quarters above as she felt cold fingers touching her in the night. This amazing building has layers of history and a maze of rooms to explore set over four levels. It is rumoured that there are passageways underneath connecting to the nearby Kirkstall Abbey. Will you dare to undertake a lone vigil in the room where a previous landlord killed himself? Will you meet the grey lady who has been seen by customers in the ladies toilets?
