Overview Research In Motion Limited and its subsidiaries and affiliates (“RIM”)are committed to improvinghow we integrate environmental and social principles into core business practices, includingresponsible forest management and efficient paper use. This commitment extends to our paper supply chain. RIMwill work with our paper suppliers (“Suppliers”) to continually improve our paperprocurement processes and reduce theirimpact on natural resources.We expect our Suppliers to conduct their operations in an ethical, socially and environmentally responsible manner and in accordance with this RIM Paper Procurement Policy(the “Policy”). In selecting and retaining Suppliers, RIM will take into consideration whether a Supplier can in an open and objective manner demonstrate its active pursuit of compliance with the Policy. Should a Supplier fail to demonstrate commitment to the Policyor fail to implement appropriate corrective actions to improve performance, RIM may choose to suspend making purchases from the Supplier, or, where appropriate,terminate its relationship with theSupplier. Framework • Responsible Forest Management RIM supports environmentally and socially responsible practices to ensure that paper and paper fiber is sourced from sustainably-managed forests. • Supplier Practices and Sourcing Restrictions Suppliers shallnot engage in illegal loggingor source from countries that have been engaged in systemic illegal logging. RIM will give preference to Suppliers: • Who are certified pursuant to respected third party standards, including but not limited tothe ForestStewardship Council(FSC)or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification(PEFC); and • Who reduce their use of fossil fuels, increase their use of renewable energy sources and/or otherwise reduce their environmental impact (for example, byusingadvanced techniques such as enhanced elemental chlorine free (EECF) or totallychlorine free (TCF) for bleaching),where reasonably feasible.
