Overwhelmed with emotion. The bill that we brought forward via Test400k passed UNANIMOUSLY in the Illinois Senate Monday afternoon. This bill halts the statue of limitations on rape until a rape kit is tested. Under the measure, the clock on the statute of limitations would no longer start on the day of the crime. It would start the day a rape kit is examined — an important shift in a state where there has long been a backlog of testing. This is how change happens. It is possible. We are so lucky to have an advocate in Sen. Michael Noland who sponsored our bill and a big thank you to Dan Johnson who wrote it. And thank you to Katherine Miller Sharmili Majmudar Deanne Benos Amy Kaufman Gudgeon Jason Burdeen @Kaethe Morris Hoffer who have worked on this with me for over a year. It was an honor to testify with Rosa - her case is just one of 400,000 in the United States. It is simply remarkable to have been part of the process. Wow. Just Wow. A question I ponder a lot these days…what do you do with your power once you are empowered? You organize and make things better. Still so much work to be done but this is an example that a few good people can make a big big difference. We are changing the law! On to the House. my.chicagotribune/#section/545/article/p2p-79849413/
