Owen Middle Students get hands on training from a College level Computer Science Instructor. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. The Hour of Code is a one-hour Alec Fehl introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. In celebration of Computer Science education Week, many schools across the country participated in Hour of Code events throughout the week of December 8 - 14. CTE Class at Owen Middle The Hour of Code is organized by Code.org, a public 501c3 non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented students of color. An unprecedented coalition of partners have come together to support the Hour of Code, too — including Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the College Board. At Owen Middle school, students grades 6-8 engaged in Hour of Code learning projects every day of the week. Volunteers came to the school to engage with the students and spark their interest in the world of computer science. On Friday, December 12, Alec Fehl, a computer science professor at AB Tech, spent the day teaching basic HTML programming to students in Amanda Venturellas CTE classes. This hands on experience allowed the students a peak into the world of computer programming and computer science, a field growing by leaps and bounds in todays job market.
