About the Owensboro Fire Department…Established in 1866, the Owensboro Fire Department is an all hazard, all risk ISO Class 2 Fire Department staffed with Career Professional Firefighters. Responding to 7,000 calls for service per year, OFD operates five fire stations and a Regional Training Center. OFD also serves the region with Special Operations Teams. OFD is active in local and regional fire and emergency management services. Providing medical first response, 75% of all calls for service are Rescue or EMS in nature. OFD is highly engaged in all aspects of emergency service to include Prevention, Preparation, Response, and Recovery. OFD operates the Divisions of Administration, Emergency Services, Fire Prevention and Community Services, and Human Resource Development and Professional Standards. Professional Development of our personnel is a high priority and a key to our success. Qualifications…Requires a High school diploma or GED, plus Associates Degree in Fire Science or job related field, plus 6 years consecutive full-time hazardous duty fire service, of which, must currently hold regular status (i.e., non-probationary) rank of Fire Captain, Training Instructor/Officer, or Fire Inspector, or equivalent rank. Also, must have successfully completed the following: NIMS 700, 800; NIMS ICS 100, 200 and 300; Fire Officer Level I as per NFPA 1021; Kentucky or National Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Basic and Instructor; IFSAC Firefighter I and II; IFSAC Instructor I; NFPA 1403 Live Fire Instructor. Also, must possess ability to successfully complete the following: Kentucky 400-hour Firefighter certification; NIMS ICS 400; NIMS 701, 702, 703, and 775.
