Owensville Fire Department Assistant Chief Kris Bayless said they could not rule out the propane-fueled refrigerator unit in a Dutchmen camper as cause of smoke seen coming from the trailer Friday afternoon at Memorial Park. Soot was evident inside the maintenance panel to the unit. The incident was reported to Gasconade County E-911 around 2:57 p.m. by a fellow exhibitor at the Gasconade County Fair. No one was injured and a dog inside the camper was scared but otherwise unharmed. Firemen Matt Eiler comforted the dog until the campers owner, Jeremy J. Williams, St. James, returned to the site. Williams son was exhibiting cattle earlier in the day. (Dave Marner photos)
