Owners of that new cereal bar criticised by media for opening in a poor part of London and for charging £3.20 for a bowl. Lets actually look at this in a realistic light. They are a new business and rents are high in London - maybe thats where they could afford? Also putting a destination eating experience in a poor area may cause a gentrification of the area and a rise in other independent businesses. Now the cost: Same price as a coffee. Imported American cereals with various kinds of milk and toppings all on offer, plus the fact its a sit in dinning experience (youll pay £10 for a burger and chips in a restaurant you can make at home for £3) You have to factor that in, then the cost of staff, rent, rates, bills, equipment and the actual cost of food. Thats a reasonable price for a fad concept in a place built on fad concepts! Blows my mind that the media will attack someone who is trying something new in such a shit economic climate. If they stuck a Starbucks there would they be questioning the morality of serving £3 coffees in a poor area? Also please note: Im not a big fan if cereal.
