Oxygen decreases 25% per mile of elevation. The findings indicated a 13% increase in lung cancers for every 1km in elevation. Should read 13% DECREASE ? Who knows... not the author. What about solar radiation effects? Radon? Prevalence of heavy industry located at ocean Ports and rivers, not atop mountains? Population & auto exhaust? Habits of smokers at different elevations? Genetics? Here in Albuquerque (5,200 ft/ 1 mile) You are less likely to smoke than a cold weather-low light northerner, fewer cars- less pollution... but your chance of getting lung damage due to silica sand in the wind is 75% ... sooooooo .... Oxygen ... a building block of life.. AND a highly aggressive substance. The standard test for elastomer (rubber) degradation/weathering is an Oxygen Bomb... normal atmosphere, compressed and heated (to simulate time exposure). Hydrogen Peroxide is used to clean wounds of anaerobic bacteria... AND launch rockets. This isnt news. Scare me once, shame on you... Scare me twice?... shame on me.
