P.I.Gigs got a mention from BB Skone in the Western Telegraph: nice! BB Scone says I bring touring artists, via Pembrokeshire Intimate Gigs, from the roots circuit to unusual venues, some of which he thinks are too unusual to be profitable. True, as far as it goes. However… All the acts are *internationally* touring roots acts. The unusual venues are all warm and not too big. The last one was too small, though,, in retrospect. I dont *think* an odd venue would put people off, as long as its comfortable, has good parking nearby and has a reasonable acoustic. *Surely*, with performers such as Petunia (of Petunia & the Vipers) doing sell-out gigs in Scandinavia, Ireland, Scotland and England could attract more than 20-odd, even in this benighted county of Pembrokeshire! Still we did have 3 sell-outs this year, which was nice, but not enough to make up for the others. I wonder, do the people of Pembrokeshire want to see high-class music thats a bit different--and better *for* that difference? Music thats usually raved about on Radio 2, Radio Wales, Radio Scotland, Radio Ulster, RTÉ, Roots and Trad music magazines and so on. Or to put it another way, does music, in order to sell, have to belong to a genre, or have be trendy? Nothing wrong with either, mind, but is this the case??? And, do the people of Pembs want to drive more than a very few miles? Id hope so, but I think many dont. People have come from the Welsh Borders, N.Wales, Somerset, Devon and Wiltshire to see some of our acts, when the nearest gig someone wants to take in is here in Pembs… yet some people cant go over the Mountain, or over the Cleddau! Food for thought, as a friend says. Any comments, good bad and ugly (and just plain silly) are welcome! Im going to put some music on, and crack a tinny.
