P.S. 69 Ms. Samuel, Ms. Goldsmith, (evil) Ms. Kosack, Mr. Klein, - TopicsExpress

P.S. 69 Ms. Samuel, Ms. Goldsmith, (evil) Ms. Kosack, Mr. Klein, and of course, Mr. Ludwig. Ring any bells? Nowadays the notion of allowing my daughter to walk to school on her own, in grade school, would be insane. Yet, as I recall, I walked to school on my own for most of my time in PS 69. I remember walking along 37th Ave. What was the name of the department store across from Jamaica Savings Bank? Past Jahns, Dairy Queen, the post office. There was a big toy store, near Dairy Queen, does anyone remember that store? There was a diner on the corner, approximately two or three blocks from school- towards 82nd. They served Beef Goulash(?), which was delicious. Does anyone remember the name of it? What I remember most from grade school is playing in the yard, before school, during break and after school. Endless games of tag. Constant running and screaming. I remember sneaking out of school and running into Mr. Ludwig on 37th Ave- he didnt seem to care at all (what a relief!!!), although I remember somehow getting into trouble with Mr. Klein- I was on his radar. Ah, thats it! You were supposed to not run in the lunch room, but of course a lot of kids ran as soon as we walked into the room. Occasionally Mr. Klein would set up sting operations and snare all of the runners. Wed get a good yelling-at. He was a very unpleasant man. But at least he wasnt evil, like Ms. Kosack. She took over for our original teacher who left early in the school year. A good teacher can change your life, as Ms. Lockwood did for me years later, but a bad teacher can really set you back and this woman really made me feel like a bad boy and that made me shut down and become a bad boy. Once during cookie break I added some chocolate mix to my milk. I told Ms. Kosack that my milk was chocolatey, and she was confused by that. Once I admitted what I had done, she, embarrassed for being mislead, wrote one of her nasty notes in the back of my notebook and told me to bring it backed signed by my mother in the morning. Of course, I did not. That resulted in another note and this went on for awhile until my sister found them. She signed it but blackmailed me into doing all of her chores for quite some time. Thats when I learned how to wash dishes.
