[P]osterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years. So wrote the great composer, Joseph Haydn, about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who died on this day in 1791. Mozart was a musical prodigy, composing music starting when he was five, performing the violin and harpsichord in his youth for the monarchs of Europe, and composing some of the principal works of the Classical Era of music. Blessed with perfect pitch, he could hear a piece of music once and both play it from memory and transcribe it to sheet music. As a result, he managed to compose music in his head and simply write it down with virtually no errors. Mozart fell ill soon after conducting the premier of his last opera, The Magic Flute. He worked in vain to finish his last composition, a Requiem Mass, but passed before completing it. To commemorate the maestros death, take a moment to listen to the Lacrimosa from that iconic Requiem Mass. https://youtube/watch?v=k1-TrAvp_xs
