PAF HISTORICAL PHOTOS: THE VOUGHT F-8H CRUSADER ENTERS PAF SERVICE... In late 1977, the Philippine government purchased 35 ex-US Navy F-8H Crusader fighters that had been sitting in storage at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona... 25 of them were refurbished by Vought and the remaining 10 were to be replacement aircraft or spares... On May 1979 the Crusaders were blessed during the PAF Anniversary afterwards the fighters entered operational service... They were heavily used for Air Defense Operations and Maritime Patrol Missions at the West Philippine Sea... They were withdrawn from service in 1991-92 due to high-operating cost, deteriorating air frames and damages caused by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo...
