PAGASA airstrip deprived of any pagasa of being repaired? Why? - TopicsExpress

PAGASA airstrip deprived of any pagasa of being repaired? Why? accordingly, it was held in abeyance to give us high moral standing in ITLOS... MAY I ASK, IS PAGASA ISLAND ONE OF THE CONTESTED TERRITORIES BASED ON UNCLOS? IS IT ONE OF THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THE CASE THAT WE FILED AT ITLOS? The United Nation Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS, is an international treaty regulating the USE of the worlds seas and oceans to ensure conservation and equitable usage of resources. it also addresses sovereignty issues, rights of usage in maritime and navigation activities. The International Tribunal for the Law of the Seas or ITLOS, is the court that hears cases brought forth based on the provisions of UNCLOS and it only cover conflicts involving maritime and usage of the sea disputes (as provided in UNCLOS), it does not take cognizance of cases involving territorial claims. ITLOS has 21 judges and divided into three divisions, namely, (1) Chamber of summary procedure, (2) Chamber of fisheries and (3) Chamber for marine environmental protection. INQUIRER--Located 480 kilometers off the coast of Palawan, Pagasa is the largest of the islands that make up the Kalayaan islands (which are part of the Spratly chain). Barangay Pagasa is part of the fifth-class municipality of Kalayaan. While it has a political and military significance, it is also where, apart from soldiers, some 200 civilians live. The residents are mostly engaged in fishing as a means of livelihood. They plant some crops, and raise pigs, goats and chickens as well. Among the first structures built on Pagasa was an airstrip over a kilometer long. Today, apart from the military outpost and the residents’ dwellings, there are, among other structures, a multipurpose hall, a clinic, a commercial communications tower—and a school. Through the efforts of Kalayaan Mayor Eugenio Bito-onon Jr., Pagasa Elementary School was established on June 15, 2012. Starting with only five students, it is a heartwarming symbol of the settlers’ commitment to stay. (Pagasa’s children usually had to travel to the mainland for their schooling.) Am I mistaken....
