PANEL WORK TO FINISH THIS WEEK! Winder, Ga. – Georgia DOT announces this week’s work plan in Downtown Winder. As of today 318 of 350 concrete panels are installed. The third and final row of concrete panel installation in underway from Midland Avenue to Stephens Street. G.P.’s Contracting expects to finish installing panels this week if the weather cooperates. The southbound lane of SR 11/Broad Street will be closed nightly, tonight, October 7 through Friday, October 11 from Midland Avenue to Stephens Street. Wednesday morning, October 9, the intersection of Stephens Street and State Route 11 will be closed to through traffic on the Courthouse side as the precast concrete slabs are installed across the intersection. It will re-open Thursday morning, October 10. Work will focus in this section over the next several weeks. Sidewalk, curbing and gutter construction will continue during the day between Midland Avenue and Stephens Street. This week the installation of the bases for the new decorative lighting will begin. After all panels are placed; the double lane closure will remain in place for approximately 2 weeks while contractors complete the curbing and gutters. This 0.72 mile long project awarded to G.P.’s Enterprises of Statham for $4,949,306.21 with a completion date of July 31, 2014. The project will rebuild SR 11/Broad Street from the ground up, creating a stronger driving surface that will last decades. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping.
