PAPAKURA NETBALL CENTRE REGIONAL PREMIER LEAGUE MEDIA RELEASE - 14TH JUNE 2013 Round 2 of the Plate Round took place on Friday night, all teams looking to improve or maintain their performances from Round 1. Division 1 Results: Aztec 1 started their RPL campaign well, beating Aztec 2 by 11 goals 55 - 44 in the Round 1 postponed game on Tuesday night. Aztec 1 led all the way, but the fighting spirit of Aztec 2, saw them draw in the third quarter before Aztec 1 regained their composure to take the final quarter. Outstanding performance by Shaiann Hemi – Aztec 2, most valuable player for the match. Aztec 1 took on RPL new comers Marlins Platinum, a thrilling on court battle again with Aztec leading all the way, but Marlins challenging the lead in the 2nd and 4th quarter. Aztec Coach Winnie Hauraki citing Lane Kerr (WA) and Dannielle Steffany (GS) with outstanding performances, and pleased with the efforts of stalwart Marcia Bennett and defence debutant Chanelle Campbell. Hauraki stating, “a great overall effort by Aztec, an improved full court defensive game plan and a step in the right direction, in preparation for the RPL Championship round”. Papatoetoe Rangers 1 played Aztec 2 at Rosehill College this week, Aztec losing 23 - 50. Aztec started well and competed for the lead in the first half of the game, but Papatoetoe Rangers dominated the 2nd half of the game and led by 10 goals going into the last quarter. Aztec 2 Coach Leonie Matoe citing “Justine Kanapu” for her outstanding performance in this match. Howick United remain the top contenders in Division 1, with another convincing win against Timbertown Shelly Park this week at Somerville Intermediate – Howick 66, Timbertown 39. Division 2 Results: Mellons Bay 1 took on Hunua Platinum at Somerville Intermediate, winning 51 (Mellons) - 42 (Hunua). Mellons Bay Coach Dave Booth reported an average start to the game by Mellons Bay, and Hunua managed to gain some control in the 2nd quarter and continued to apply pressure going into the half time break. Mellons Bay made some changes to fight our way back into the game and to hold on for a win even though Hunua challenged the lead all the way to the end. Booth citing Mellons Bay’s Sam Reynolds (C) and Hunua’s Melissa Mounsey-Ross (GD) as the most outstanding performers in the match. CG Platinum played Bombay Premiers at Rosehill College, Bombay winning convincingly 62 – 40. Manurewa Gold faced newcomers Revelation Titans Netball Manurewa, winning 56 – 40.
