What indeed is the value of a rising per capita GDP if the costs of our homes per capita is rising even faster… The HDB resale market deregulated in the past decade to enable public owners to enjoy asset enhancement has also largely moved in tandem, but the results are paradoxical. HDB owners do not feel richer as researchers found….. Singaporeans are generally not able to monetised their home unless they emigrate or they downgrade, which really is a “lost of face” in most cases. And they certainly don’t feel richer simply because their home now seem to be more valuable.
