PARADE magazine knows Ive given my share of commencement addresses, and asked what Id be saying this year. This was a part of last weeks Otterbein University address last Sunday. As always, I built on Moms maxim, Dont marry him until you see how he treats the waitress and asked them to be activists for kindness. I also talked about my hard-working friend Deb Skettle, who died earlier that week at age 58 after a heart attack. but this year I encouraged them to breathe in the simple joys swirling right in front of them - and all of us. A special thanks to the late Kurt Vonnegut, who helped me craft the walk-off.
