PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS – DEADLINE FOR ALTERNATIVE PROPOSALS FOR LADYSMITH SCHOOLS IS MONDAY OCTOBER 28TH At the October 22nd meeting of the Ladysmith Working Group, a deadline of next Monday, October 28th was set for the submission of alternative configurations for Ladysmith schools. Even if you think your proposed solution has already been submitted PLEASE RESEND to be sure that none are missed. Starting next week, the Working Group will be evaluating all submitted proposals against the criteria for consideration set by the Board of Education. Proposals that meet these criteria at a threshold (not yet determined) will go further in the process to be evaluated against additional criteria, reflective of community and stakeholder values. If your alternative proposal does not hit ALL of this criteria but is strong in some, and close in others, please do submit it. There are strengths and weaknesses in each alternative, including the district proposal. This is your chance participate in the discussion. According to the Terms of Reference of the Working Group: To maintain consistency with SD68’s 10-Year Enhanced Facilities for Learning Plan and the decisions made by the Board of Education at its June 26, 2013 on the recommendations in the Plan, any proposed alternatives resulting and recommended from the extended public consultation will at minimum use and refer to the information used to develop the Plan, the information contained in the Plan, and meet the following criteria as they relate to the elementary schools in the Ladysmith Zone: 1. Optimal elementary school size for English Program (200-400 students) 2. Optimal school size for French program (200 students optimal, but 150 possible) 3. Seismic mitigation factors; 4. Overall facility condition; 5. Realistic assessment of the available sources of funding for capital projects including Ministry of Education criteria, and 6. Current enrolment projections. Also key is that only proposals related to the 4 elementary schools in the Ladysmith Zone (Ecole Davis Road Elementary, Ladysmith Primary, Ladysmith Intermediate and North Oyster Elementary) will be considered. Proposals involving schools outside this Zone will not be considered. We are able consider proposals with K-7 configuration. Please email EDR Co-Chairs Aaron Stone and Cheryl Onciul through PAC gmail at davisroadpac@gmail. And if you are looking for more information on enrolment projection, past proposals etc., please see the EDR PAC website at edrpac.ca. Thank you all for your help. Let’s work together to find a solution that works for our kids and the whole community!
