PARLIAMENTARY QUESTIONS Sitting of Tuesday 12 Noveember 2013 B/858 The Honourable Second Member for Belle Rose and Quatre Bornes (Mr Ramano) To ask the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Leisure:- Whether, in regard to the Appavou Group of Hotels, he will state if his Ministry has received complaints against the management thereof, over the past three years and, if so, indicate the actions, if any, taken by his Ministry and the Tourism Authority in relation thereto? Mr Speaker Sir, I am informed that two hotels are presently operated by the Apavou Group, namely Indian Club Apavou Hotel at Le Morne and La Plantation Hotel at Balaclava. Since the year 2010, some 17 complaints have been received against the hotels of the Apavou Group, both at the level of my Ministry and the Tourism Authority. These were referred to the Tourism Authority which is the enforcement body for investigation and appropriate action. Mr Speaker Sir, I am informed that the Tourism Authority has undertaken 38 inspections/monitoring visits whereby the following actions were taken:- i. 59 contraventions; ii. 7 warnings; iii. 2 suspensions; iv. 1 non-renewal; and v. 1 enforcement notice.
