PART I: Introduction to Computer Hour 4 Desktop and basic windows management Working on Wallpaper/Screen Saver/Appearance/Settings NB: The following steps are for Windows XP, for newer version, go to the end-note. • The background (wallpaper) screen of Windows can be fully changed to suit the user’s specifications to display a colour or image of your choice. • Right click on empty space on the desktop. From the popup menu, click on the Properties. • To change the wallpaper, click on the desktop tab, select the picture of choice at background column, the picture can be stretch, tile or center, and then click apply button to effect changes. • To change the screen saver setup, click on the screen saver tab, select the screen saver type at the screen saver column, set the time, can assign password if necessary by clicking on “password to resume protected” checkbox and then click apply button to effect changes. • To change the appearance, click on the appearance tab, choose the type at windows and buttons column, select the colour at the color scheme column, choose the font size you want at font size column and then click apply button to effect changes. • To change settings, click on the setting tab, make sure you choose the screen resolution that your computer’s VGA support. NB: These settings; the wallpaper, screen saver, appearance and others can also be changed at the control panel by selecting display icon. NB: For Windows apart from Windows XP, right click on empty space on the desktop, choose Personalize from the pop up menu, then choose the option you want to customize.
