PART OF A MEMO FROM GSU to GPB WHEN THIS SAME DEAL WAS PROPOSED IN 2008: GPB programming is typical of the News-Classical format common among NPR stations. This audience is in many ways the opposite of the audience held by WRAS. GPB would attract a much older audience, over 50% of which would be over 55 years of age. Our current audience primarily consists of those aged 18 to 34, a demographic of great value to Georgia State. It is unlikely that the GPB audience would understand or accept programming from our college students which followed network programming. Such a significant audience shift would require a fundamental shift in our student media philosophy. Our students would no longer be programming to their peers, requiring staff control of programming to ensure that non-GPB programming matched the sensibilities and expectations of an NPR audience.
