PARTING SHOT... For health professionals, dealing with the Ebola virus is bad enough. What makes matters worse is they also have to deal with pesky politicians – who are just trying to make political headlines out of the disease. First was Texas governor Rick Perry, with this exaggerated warnings about immigrants carrying the Ebola virus across the Southern border. Now it’s New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie getting in the act, joined by Pat Quinn of Illinois and Rick Scott of Florida – all four of whom have imposed mandatory 21-day quarantines for anybody who comes here from West Africa, whether they have symptoms of Ebola or not. Which health care professionals say is absolutely the worst thing to do – because, for one thing, it’ll discourage doctors and nurses from volunteering to serve in West Africa, where we must help beat back this horrible disease at the source. Why don’t politicians just shut up and listen to health professionals? That’s my parting shot for today. I’m Bill Press.
