PARTING SHOT... It was interesting to hear all the talk of bipartisanship fill the air yesterday. I was at yesterday’s news conference where President Obama congratulated Republicans on their victory and said he was looking forward to working with John Boehner and Mitch McConnell to “get stuff done.” And I saw Mitch McConnell’s news conference, where he said he was eager to get Congress moving again and to work with Obama to pass some important legislation. The only problem is, I don’t believe a word of it. Oh, I believe the president. He’s tried for six years – tried too hard, in my opinion – to work with these Republicans. But I don’t believe Mitch McConnell for a second. Who’s he kidding? He’s been around for 30 years. Why think he’s going to change? And what’s he done for the last six years? Nothing but use the filibuster to block everything President Obama has tried to do. I have to throw cold water on all this kumbaya talk, but Mitch McConnell is Mr. Obstructionism – and he’s not going to change. That’s my parting shot for today. I’m Bill Press.
