PARTING SHOT... We’ve heard a lot of conciliatory statements from Mitch McConnell in the last few days. How he wants to get the Senate working again. How he wants to find common ground with President Obama. Well, here’s his first test: confirmation of Loretta Lynch as America’s new Attorney General. By any test, she’s an outstanding choice for AG. A tough federal prosecutor, she won high marks for cracking down on cases of government corruption, terrorism, and organized gangs. And special kudos from law enforcement for her role in the prosecution of police officers accused in the brutal beating of Abner Luima. As U.S. Attorney for Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, and Staten Island, she won convictions of terrorists planning to bomb New York’s subway and successfully prosecuted a New York state assemblyman and a U.S. Congressman. In short, she’s one tough cookie. The only reason to oppose her is the fact that she’s been appointed by President Obama. If Mitch McConnell really wants to put that kind of partisanship behind us, now’s the time to show it. That’s my parting shot for today. I’m Bill Press.
