PASS THIS ALONG: The Senate Appropriations Committee took a big step in the fight against arthritis by proposing $5 million for a Pediatric Sub-specialty Loan Repayment Program for FY 2014. If funded, this program will improve access to pediatric rheumatologists for America’s 300,000 children living with juvenile arthritis. This week eleven members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services will work with subcommittee leadership to draft their proposed FY 2014 spending bill. We need them to deliver a decisive blow against arthritis. Currently, there are eleven states without a board-certified, practicing pediatric rheumatologist. Also in the ring are critical arthritis research and prevention dollars at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). There is enough strength within the Arthritis Advocacy Network to knock out arthritis.
