PASS THIS AROUND: I Cant believe the number of winter forecasts Im already seeing passed around the web. Of course, all of them are bad for us. However, I dont particularly agree with these forecasts at this time. Right now, were in a weak El Nino, that may get a bit stronger for us before winter. According to the Illinois State Climatologist, an El Nino means Winters tend to be warmer and drier. Further more, a weak El Nino means tendency for drier-than-average weather from January to March. (Source: isws.illinois.edu/atmos/statecli/ElNino/elnino.htm) Keep in mind that seasonal forecasts are based on an average and our average is 24 inches of snow. So if we have two 10 inch snowfalls and no more snow the rest of the year, that would be a below normal year, but many may consider it rough because of the two big snowfalls. As we get closer to Winter, Lisa Meadows, Mike Taylor and I will post updates to the Winter Forecast. For now, please share this so that others will stop fearing another brutal winter. It is way to early to guarantee anything.
