PASSING THE BATON Just came back from witnessing the passing of a leadership baton from a spiritual father who has successfully and gracefully led a church for 30 years to a younger man who is poised to take the church to another level. In observing this service questions cropped up in my mind: • Why are sons today not waiting for their turn to be released and are instead releasing themselves? • Why are fathers not sensitive to know when it is time for them to hand over? • Why are there so few churches with many other gifted people (like the one I was in) that are happy to serve and not agitating to start their own ministry? • Why is honour so rare today? • Why do so many ministers want to be the senior leader? The younger man who is taken over leadership said that in a relay it doesn’t matter who crosses the line but the victory belongs to the same team. Why is this attitude so rare in other younger men?
