PASSPORT TO HEALTHIER-TOWN EVENT TO KICK OFF AT SAUCON VALLEY FARMERS’ MARKET’S WELLNESS DAY IN FALL As the faces of downtowns are changing nationwide, so is society’s tendency towards simple, healthy, natural living. Hellertown has embraced this growing trend as their own: towards a health & wellness centered community. The popularity of the Saucon Rail Trail and the growing attendance and vendor participation in the Saucon Valley Farmers’ Market is evidence of support. To create awareness of some of these evolving businesses, the local revitalization program is encouraging the town (and beyond) to participate in the 1ST Annual Passport to Healthier-town event. What better time to stroll around town and explore local business than the start of autumn – cool air and comforting weather? Passports can be picked up on “Wellness Day” at the Saucon Valley Farmers’ Market – on Sunday, September 28th from 9 am to 1 pm; there is no cost to take part in this event. They will also be available at any of the participating businesses, starting that day and throughout the week. People have one week to take their passports to any/all of the businesses listed, to get them validated. A purchase is not required, just a visit. At week’s end, people can “cash in” their passports at the farmers’ market – on Sunday, October 5th. The first 50 people to hand in a passport with a minimum of ten signed business lines entitles them to a Capital Blue tote bag containing goodies donated by participating businesses. In addition, every signed line is also worth one ticket to enter to win several locally-donated health, wellness, and recreational items. This event is intended to be a fun & simple opportunity to learn how Hellertown businesses appeal to the community’s health, wellness, & overall quality of life! Participating Businesses include the following: Saucon Valley Farmers’ Market (get your stamp on 9/28 or 10/5) DeWire Dental, LLC Feet First Podiatry Saucon Valley Acupuncture Dr. S. Clarke Woodruff Reilly Chiropractic Pamela L. Meyer DO, PC / Shine Derm Spa Alliance Counseling Center Freys Health Food Store Lost River Caverns Advanced Optics Saucon Valley Dance Conservatory Lehigh Valley Produce H&R Block Hellertown Family Chiropractic The Mommy MD Guides (get your stamp on 10/5 at the farmers’ market) St. Luke’s Physical Therapy Donated products and services available, to enter to win on closing day, are donated in large part by some of the participating businesses. The variety of items range from a sweatshirt, sunglasses, food, or books to free classes or medical treatments valued at hundreds of dollars. The actual tote bags are provided by Capital Blue; the items included inside will have been donated by all of the participating businesses. This event is coordinated by the Hellertown Borough Business Revitalization Program – a volunteer committee that pursues downtown beautification and borough business promotional efforts. The committee meets monthly with the guidance of a contracted coordinator from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber – a partnered effort between the borough and the Chamber.
