PASTORS PERSPECTIVE Here’s the good news so far from Consecration Sunday: our Treasurer, Lisa Walston, reports that as of Consecration Sunday, we have received 105 pledges for a total of $643,888. Thank you! This is a very encouraging launch for our total congregational response. We pray that so many more members and friends of the church will submit a pledge or estimate-of-giving response to support Lake Travis UMC for 2015. Our collective prayers and pledges of support help us to build effective ministry all to the glory of God. I lift up thanksgiving for our entire Stewardship Committee, under the leadership of Myles McKemie, for the loving efforts they continue to offer in raising awareness of our ongoing hope and challenge, and encouraging a faithful and generous response from the whole congregation. Also I lift up thanksgiving for our Board of Trustees under the leadership of Ronny Platt. Our Trustees have been working really hard to address some potentially expensive concerns. Last year the Trustees successfully engaged a contract with the Champions sports group for a part-time use of our gym that produced more than $24,000 in annual income for the church budget. At the end of August, Champions opted for a new location. So our projected income for 2015, no longer includes that $24k source of support. This is a tough loss for the Trustees’ attempt to recruit outside funding for the church budget This summer, our Trustees and I, also mourned the death of Lauro Briones, first hired under the supervision of Dee Prewit to maintain our lawns and grounds. Since then, after very limited success in trying to live within the current budget formerly allowed for Lauro, the Trustees have in the last week engaged the work of a major lawn service. It’s looking much better out there, but it will cost us more to keep it that way. Finally, two different water and moisture problems in the Chesnutt Building have resulted in surface mold in the northwest corner of the Chesnutt fellowship hall and on a wall affecting the custodians’ closet and Patty Rosemurgy’s office. All other areas tested around the Chesnutt building proved normal. However, we are sealing off the affected spaces, and will be proceeding to immediate removal of the problem with complete remediation of those structures and areas. We do not know yet the total cost of all this water damage, but we anticipate substantial numbers. All this is necessary, of course, to get back to normal functioning conditions. The Trustees, meanwhile, have fixed the different drainage issues that created these problems in the first place. These have been painful surprises and losses, but I am so grateful for the valiant and faithful response of our Trustees to help us work through these concerns. With God’s help and your help, we will address the challenges and move ahead in joyful ministry.
