PASTORS PERSPECTIVE We begin Lent on Ash Wednesday, March 5, - TopicsExpress

PASTORS PERSPECTIVE We begin Lent on Ash Wednesday, March 5, with activities of prayer and fasting to launch a season of prayer and fasting. Rev. Kim Ethridge is leading our Ash Wednesday services in the sanctuary at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. She is also organizing our 30 Hour Famine for world hunger on March 21-22. You can sign-up to participate in this fast on the connections form in your Sunday bulletin. During Lent I will be sharing a sermon series entitled “Close Encounters With Jesus.” Each week the focus will be on particular personal moments with Jesus as described in key gospel passages. We begin this week with Jesus’ encounter with “the Tempter.” In future weeks we will encounter Jesus through Nicodemus, the woman at the well, the man blind from birth, and Lazarus. Our search continues for a new praise leader for “The Way.” We will be welcoming two candidates for that position to lead praise music at “The Way” on March 23 and 30. There may yet be other candidates to consider as well. Please pray for our search, and for the larger empowerment of our total worship ministry in the life of our congregation. I am pleased to announce that Marlene Anders will become our new Wesley Nurse, effective May 5. Marlene has been involved with the Wesley Nurse ministry since its beginning nearly 18 years ago. She currently serves as a supervisor of the program at their headquarters in San Antonio, and will be joining us after she transitions out of her current role there. Marlene and her husband already have a home just outside Lakeway, off Bee Creek Road. After four years of having a married life here in the Lake Travis area and a job in San Antonio, Marlene is ready to stop commuting. She is excited about joining us, and will be eager to get started. We look forward to presenting her to you early in May. Our Austin District Superintendent, the Rev. Steve Purdy, has announced that Bishop Dorff will be appointing him as Superintendent of the San Angelo District, beginning in July. Our new Austin District Superintendent will be named soon. Please remember Steve and his wife Vickie in your prayers. Yours in Christ, Ray Kiser Senior Pastor - See more at: ltumc.org/oc/blog/impressions-%E2%80%93-march-5-2014#sthash.RNokYjcL.dpuf
