PASTOR’S BLOG Today, October 22, is a nostalgic day for many of us. Our dear pioneers believed not just 99.9% but 100% that Jesus was returning to this earth the second time on October 22, 1844. While there has been controversies over what exactly took place on October 22, 1844, we cannot deny that our early pioneers were sincerely wrong about the date of our Lords return. This is often referred to as the Great Disappointment. But in the midst of such a devastating experience, God used them to establish the Seventh-day Adventist Church that has been a spreading flame around the world. While we may not be the largest denomination in the world, we are the most widely spread denomination in the world. Our presence is in more countries than any other denomination and by the way, I just heard last week we are the sixth largest denomination in the world. God can take any disappointment and make it an appointment for him around the globe. Even in our own lives, God can take a disappointing experience and turn it for our own good. Many of us have been recipients of Gods mercy that has been new every morning and have tasted and seen that the Lord is good. So no matter what disappointments may come your way, be it your health, family, church, job or even in the delay of the Lords return, keep hope alive. Hope is the tonic that will strengthen and sustain you in life. It was John Bunyan who said, Hope is never ill when faith is well. And it was Cicero who said, While there is life there is hope.” Tennyson put it this way, The mighty hope that makes us men. C. S. Lewis wrote, “Hope is the continual looking forward to the eternal world.” So keep hope alive. Above all, hope in the coming of the Lord. Shalom, Shalom! Franklin David
