PATIENT ADVOCATE: 1...TEACHING MOMENT FOR HOSPITAL: SUCCESSFUL This morning I calmly but firmly fired the surgeon in question from last nights posts. After waiting all evening for a visit, I finally went home at 12:15 to shower and sleep for a couple of hours before being back here at 7:00 this morning. I discussed everything with Paul and we decided that there was no positive benefit to keeping this person as our surgeon. I do have to say that the resident was most apologetic and helpful; he agreed that the hospital has not done right by Mom this point. After speaking with Moms PCP and getting his recommendation, we chose to stay here as long as Mom was given a new surgeon who can be more attentive. This afternoon I was informed that the new surgeon - the one who performed my father-in-laws liver surgery in 2012 - is going to be visiting us tomorrow night. :) The nurse told me that he is EXCELLENT and that we will be very pleased. :) :) Best news came when I asked if we could move to the window side of the room once Moms roommate went home this evening. The nurse said, What about a private room? You dont have to ask me twice!! I feel like she and I are living in luxury now!! We should BOTH be able to rest tonight! I will not be afraid to stand up for what is right, or for what I know can be improved. If you are a patient advocate, keep fighting for the excellence in patient care. :) Linda Franks-Britton Paul Britton Jennifer Decker Jennifer Barnes-Stone Maxine Kirkpatrick Kim Davidson-Thompson
