PATIENTS AND DOCTORS SCATTER AT QECH RUNNING AWAY FROM AN ‘EBOLA’ PATIENT - ZBNG has learnt that there was a misplaced reaction at Queens Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre when an Ebola suspected patient got referred at the facility. According to the report, the case was identified at one of the country’s border zones-Mwanza. Officials at Mwanza Hospital and was since referred to QECH. Accompanying this referral was a claimed rumor that the officials from Mwanza hospital deliberately sent the patient to QECH because only medical personnel from QECH went and shared allowances for Ebola workshop that took place recently. In that respect hospital personnel from Mwanza wanted Doctors and Nurses from QECH to treat the patient because Mwanza did not have a pie of the allowances from the workshop. Palowa Njoka, akumbenso okha. Upon seeing the patient, who had already emerged bubbling blisters around his body, patients and some medical attendants run away from the ward fearing their risk. However, dispelling the panic, an informed Doctor who attended to the patient has confirmed that the patient is suffering from chicken pox and not Ebola. He stated that the patient was quarantined just as a precaution measure ‘just in case’.
