PAU Ranked 6th in Forbes Best Places to Retire to …. The historic centre of Pau, has been ranked 6th place by a global expert in retirement abroad and the article was published in the Forbes magazine. At first glance that seems rather surprising, given that Pau is a small city with 80,000 inhabitants and relatively unknown, as apposed to its nearest coastal resort Biarritz, which attracts flocks of International visitors. Anyway, Forbes published a ranking of the best sites in the world to retire abroad. Topping the list was the Algarve ... and in sixth position, our beautiful city of Pau ! The classification was based on the annual index of the best places to retire published by the website Live and Invest Overseas led by Kathleen Peddicord, considered by many in the United States, as the world expert in the field of retirement abroad. According to the site, to achieve this ranking, hundreds of statistics were compiled based on a dozen criteria: the quality of the climate, cost of living, crime, the number of people speaking English, entertainment, environmental framework, the importance of the expatriate community, infrastructure, real estate market, residential supply, taxes etc. Pau charmed Kathleen Peddicord, who described the it as a green city with exceptional views of the Pyrenees. where a retired couple can live there for a mere $ 2000 dollars a month.
