PAs UN statehood bid disastrous, says Hamas leader Mahmoud A-Zahar says Hamas opposes any plan based on 1967 lines, refuses to even consider Jerusalem as a shared capital. By Haaretz | Dec. 28, 2014 | 11:13 AM Hamas leader Mahmoud A-Zahar on Saturday called the Palestinian Authoritys UN draft resolution for Palestinian statehood disastrous, Maan news agency reported. Zahar said Hamas would not accept the resolution being pushed by PA President Mahmoud Abbas due to its focus on 1967 lines, and not what he calls all of historic Palestine. Hamas would only accept a Palestinian state based on 1948 lines, when Israel was established, and refuses to consider Jerusalem as a shared capital for a Palestinian state and Israel, Maan reported. Earlier this month, Jordan submitted a draft resolution on behalf of the Palestinians, calling for an Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories by 2017. The resolution sets a two-year deadline to reach a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Haaretz reported last week that the Palestinian delegation to the United Nations had revised the proposal, with a new version defining East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state. The revision also states that the Palestinians demand full sovereignty over all areas captured after June 4, 1967, do not recognize any demographic and geographic changes made by Israel, and emphasizes that all the settlements violate international law, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said.
