PBA legends raise close to P1 million for victims of conflict in Zamboanga Former players from the PBA on Saturday raised close to P1 million in a benefit match for victims of conflict in Zamboanga City. PBA legends bannered by Alvin Patrimonion, Jerry Codinera, Johnny Abarrientos, and Ronnie Magsanoc suited up at the Blue Eagle Gym in Ateneo in the charity match organized by former player Noynoy Falcasantos, a Zamboanga City native. A good chunk of the amount raised came from Senator Allan Peter Cayetano, a guest player who pledged P1,000 for each point scored in the game. That match ended at 175-all. Former Ginebra stars Marlou Aquino, Bal David, Vince Hizon, and Noli Locsin also suited up alongside ex-Alaska forward Bong Hawkins. Actor Jomari Yllana also played for the squad to add glitter to the proceedings. Other former players who suited up include Banjo Calpito, Benny Cheng, Michael Orquillas, Jay Mendoza, Gerard Francisco, and Chester Tolomia. Mag-mi-meeting kaming mga Zamboanguenos and see how much we raised. We will be transparent on this.” Zamboanga City was ravaged by violence after a bloody standoff between Moro National Liberation Front fighters and government troops. The crisis displaced more than 100,000 people in 34 evacuation center. Patrimonio said it was a no-brainer for him and other former players to suit up for the event. “Go kaagad. The four-time PBA Most Valuable Player said they would be willing to suit up for other charity causes. -TIMRR9
