PC CAUCUS RELEASE: Incompetent Liberals making a mess of health reform PC_Caucus Incompetent Liberals making a mess of health reform January 19, 2015 HALIFAX, NS - Progressive Conservative Health critic Chris d’Entremont says the McNeil Liberals are making a mess of healthcare reform and putting frontline care in jeopardy. Today, arbitrator James Dorsey was unable to provide a clear decision, saying there is more work to be done. At $275 an hour, he will be back in Nova Scotia in February to work out further details with the government and unions. “The Liberals’ handling of healthcare reform in Nova Scotia can be summed as up as simply incompetent,” said d’Entremont. “The Liberals rushed a flawed piece of legislation through the House of Assembly without understanding its implications and now frontline healthcare is once again in jeopardy.” A Freedom of Information request obtained by the PC Caucus Office (attached) indicates that originally healthcare re-organization and the associated changes for relations were to be addressed in separate pieces of legislation, something the Progressive Conservatives also called for. d’Entremont says it’s now obvious the decision to merge the two was a political one – and it backfired. He says restructuring our healthcare system is too important for the Liberals to mess it up. “The Nova Scotian families who depend on quality frontline healthcare can’t afford for the Liberals to get this merger wrong,” said d’Entremont. “We will be watching very closely and holding the government accountable for finding savings in administration and putting patient care first.”
