PCHS News Notes for July Phelps County Historical Society P.O Box 1861 Rolla, MO 65402-1861 [email protected] We get by with a little help from our friends! We need a little help right now: ice cream & cake servers, chair set-up, clean up for the July 10 Ice Cream Social Nominating Committee to recruit officers & Executive Committee members Computer data entry: adding artifact descriptions to our collections database Museum Docents and Tour Guides PCHS is working with the City of Rolla to establish our Historic Preservation Ordinance The officers and Executive Committee will meet with Planning & Zoning on July 9; then attend the City Council meeting on Monday, July 15. YOU are vital to the success of the ordinance and the eventual Historic Preservation Commission. Talk to your City Council representative about the importance of historic preservation to you, and join us in the Council chambers on Monday, July 15! Do you have experience in building restoration, property law, architecture, or engineering? We want to talk to you about Rolla’s Historic Preservation Commission. Celebrate the birthday of Rolla’s founder, Edmund Ward Bishop! He’s 193! Cake, ice cream, and Flint Holler will all be on the 1861 Courthouse lawn to honor EWB and just have a good time. We need folks to scoop the South Central Creamery ice cream and serve the cake from the Kroger bakery – so let us know how you can help out! Join us Wednesday, July 10 at 7 PM for the fun! [email protected] Recent activity in the PCHS Museums: New exhibits in our largest hall Work with local weavers to create a Textile Room in the Old Courthouse Extensive sorting and cleaning of artifacts in the 1838 Dillon Log Cabin And we’re busy in Rolla and Phelps County, too: Working with State Historical Society Research Center – Rolla and Rolla Preservation Alliance on the Historic Preservation Ordinance A great big Thank You to these recent donors: Leann Arndt, Booker Rucker, and Ryan Reed for all their practical experience with the Historic Preservation Ordinance! Local weavers Sam Burton and Vicki Frazier for beginning work with our looms Lowe’s for more shelving in our renovated preparation areas Sew Dreamy for making gentle storage supports for our Clothing Collection Officers & Executive Committee members: Jean Moran Day, President Mark Stauter, Treasurer Dennis Peterman, Secretary Larry Roberts, Curator Ed Herrman, At-Large Donna Reed, At-Large The Best-Kept Secret in Phelps County is our 1861 Courthouse!
