Mr Rana took pity over the political appreciation of Bharatya Janata Party, saying they keep the issues like Article 370 and Ram Temple under carpet for four years and only raise these before the elections. “Either they are used to day dreaming or their have failed in comprehending the political sagacity of the people, who refuse to get swayed by such emotive slogans”, he maintained. The Provincial President reiterated that this important Article of the Constitution cannot even be abrogated by Parliament and said knowing well this harsh reality, BJP leadership was indulging in rhetoric just to hoodwink public opinion and to push their extremist agenda. He reminded the BJP leadership about the realistic approach of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee over Article 370. Recalling Mr Vajpayee’s replyto a question of a journalist on Article 370, when he was External Affairs Minister, the veteran leader had said that it is easy to say anything when in Opposition, and it differentwhen in government. He expressedregrets over some elements joining hands with communal forces and treating the leaders like Narendra Modi as their role model and said this may serve their myopic political interests but tendencies were against the interests of Jammu and Kashmir. He referred to public pronouncements being made by a PDP legislator in Poonch claiming to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a statelike Modi’s Gujarat. “We don’t want to be identified with Narendra Modi’s Gujarat. We are proud to be as we are, the secular peopleof Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, who believe in human dignity, love and compassion for all”, he said, amid applause. He also referred to the glorious traditions of amity, peaceful co-existence and tolerance and said that the mission of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah was being single-mindedlypursued by National Conference under the able stewardship of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to nurture this spirit of unity in diversity. This is the legacy which will be carried forward withsame vigour and those coming in its way willfind their political space shrinking, he maintained and urged the people to further strengthen the party, which he described as a popular public movement.
