PDP RELIGIOUS BLACKMAIL SHOULD NEVER WIN OVER COMMON SENSE, THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE, OUR SECURITY AND PROGRESS OF OUR DEAR NATION, NIGERIA: It is painful for so many others including myself to read that our dream and HOPE of a Fashola Vice President may be put at risk. But, I would appeal to our leaders to rethink and NOT deny us of a good, formidable, futuristic, Altruistic, high innovative, fearless and non-corrupt Vice President that ALL Nigerians and the World will be proud of. Our desires for our future security SHOULD NEVER BE GAMBLE WITH! There is no point falling for PDP blackmail strategy and at the same time refusing to trust Nigerians who believed that Religion should never have trumped the need and HOPE of the populace. Let me make it clear that nearly all Nigerians would vote for Fashola regardless of his Religion. In the Southwest, we are known to appreciate leaders with sound ideology; We intermarry regardless of Religion; We are known across the World as moderates when it comes to Religion; We collectively have taken the fore front in speaking out and protesting against impunity in Nigeria and Far Beyond. Therefore, why would our leaders who we believed in attempting to fall for the cheapest blackmail that is merely based on an illusion? Why cant our leaders trust the logistic that stares them in the face? I would appeal to our leaders to think Of the Population of Interest in this determination: These are present South-Western States: Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Ondo and Osun State. Are we now telling the World that South Westerners will not vote for Fashola because he is a Muslim? Are we saying to Nigerians your Employment Assessment will be rated based on Religion and not Capabilities? Leaders, please what precedent are you laying down if your only reason for not supporting and giving us our Fashola was because of his Religion? Has anyone carried out logistic as to determine how many SouthWesterners intermarry or are Muslims or Christians or are you basing your decision on PDP Blackmail? Have you consider the probability of rescuing us from years of nonsensical suffocating old ideologies that have drawn us so backwards? Disappointingly, but respectfully, we would work tirelessly to support who ever emerges as the Presidential Candidates of APC. But, we want a Vice that will put our mind at rest as we do not deserve to have a replication of Jonathan/Sambo who claimed to be Christians/Muslims but have rendered our beloved country Nigeria helplessly at the mercy of Terrorism, Poverty, Kidnappings, Genocides, Division, Corruption and untold hardship! PLEASE RESPECT US AND WAKE UP! TRUST IN US AND DO NOT DENY US OF A FASHOLA VICE PRESIDENT. THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO RESCUE OUR BELOVED COUNTRY NIGERIA, SO WHY ARE YOU FALLING FOR PDP BLACKMAIL? The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has been ruled out as a running mate to whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress at the convention in December. A highly placed source in the party, who spoke with Punch on the matter, said that Fashola’s religion, even though he is considered a performer, had ruled him out of the race for the vice presidential slot. He said, “You know that the South-West is a base for the APC and it also contributed immensely to its formation. We would have preferred Fashola because of his pedigree in the state. Moreover, of all the APC governors from the zone, he is the only one doing his second term. “But this issue of religion is the problem. Apart from this, other APC governors from the zone are also Muslims. You may need to recall that the enemies of our party tried in vain before to label the party a Muslim party. “Even though they have failed, we may also need to be guided by the words of advice from former President Olusegun Obasanjo against any party fielding same religion ticket. This is what is hampering us concerning Fashola, whose performance and competence cannot be queried.” He said since it was almost certain that the party would field a Muslim as its presidential candidate, it would therefore be out of place to field another Muslim [Babatunde Fashola] as the running mate. Apart from General Muhammadu Buhari, the party also has three other known presidential aspirants. They are a former VP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwakwanso; and a newspaper publisher, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah. Out of them, only Nda-Isaiah is a Christian. The source said that though Fashola remained the best candidate for the position, he however regretted that the issue of religion would deny the party and the country the chance of fielding the governor. “South-West are not religious but we are dealing with a larger society now.
