PDP RESOLVES GUBER TUSSLE,IMAM NOW THE FLAGBEARER Folowing concerted reconciliatory efforts, leaders of PDP in Borno state have sheath their swords and have fully declared support for Alhaji Mohammed Imam to face incumbent Kashim Shetimma in February polls. Both imam and Alhaji Gambo Lawan have reportedly met with both men resolving to work for the common good of the party. Report indicated that both old and new PDP leaders have agreed to mutually agreeable unity programme and government after winning the election. A party chief revealed that the change from Lawan to Imam was taken at the highest level of party and government because of certain considerations, adding the decision was not taken to spite Lawan or the old PDP members. We all have full respect for Lawan and leaders of old PDP. The choice of Imam was based on four main reasons which are very important if we are to beat the incumbent. First,we need a candidate who is based mainly in Borno and can therefore face Shetima directly on ground despite the insurgency. Two we need a candidate young and with popular appeal. Imam is known to be a rugged populist mobiliser. Three,we need a candidate with whom the new members can feel comfortable with especially as we need them if we are to win. And four,we need a candidate who has worked closely with the governor and who have his own contacts within the Government House and who threrefore have insights into how Shetimma and his team operate, the party chief said. Further checks showed that no member of the old PDP is contemplating decamping as many of them felt staying within PDP is the best option for them. According to an old PDP member who spoke to Kanuri News, where will I decamp to? Nobody is decamping. We have issues and we have resolved it. My main desire is to see a PDP government ruling Borno . If I can get that in my lifetime,i will be glad for ever, the party chief noted.
